EV Charging Infra Development Status in India

1. Capacity Development – EV Charging Infra

As of December 2024, the total EV Public Charging stations in India stands to be 25,202. Since July-Dec’2024 approximately 8858 EV PCS were installed in the country. The total number of EV public charge points as of Dec’2024 hovers around 40,000 &the fast charging points stands to be approx. 16,000. 

2. Government Announcements & Achievements

Central Government

GoI is taking significant initiatives to boost EV charging infra establishments in the country. The recently announced PM e Drive scheme also aims to establish a robust network of public charging stations, including 22,100 fast chargers for e-4Ws, 1,800 for e-buses, and 48,400 for e2Ws and e-3W. The total outlay for CI under this scheme is INR 2000 crores

State Government

Till date 271 EV public charging stations have been installed in the state of Chhattisgarh with Raipur (57) leading the pack of districts in the state. In Aug’2024 The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has become the first urban body in the  country to undertake the development of fast EV charging stations in collaboration with the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU).

4. Capacity Outlook

  • EV Charging Infra Targets in Select Few States/UTs in India India witnessed a capacity addition of approx. 15000 in EV charging stations from CY 2023 to CY’2024. Assuming the same capacity addition YoY till 2030, India may observe nearly 1.15 Lakh operational EV Charging stations.
