National Smart Grid Mission: Transforming India's Power Sector with Smart Meters

The National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM) was established by the Government of India under the Ministry of Power (MoP) on March 27, 2015, to accelerate the deployment of Smart Grid technology across the country. The case study conducted for 1,000 consumers on a single feeder over a six-month period (October 2016 – March 2017) revealed significant improvements:

• Automatic DT-wise energy audit for identifying high-loss areas
• AT&C loss reduction from 20% to 13.5%

✅ Smart Meter Deployment in India (March 2025 Status):

• 2,29,29,954 smart meters successfully deployed
• Total sanctioned & awarded smart meters: 22,23,54,490
• Total awarded & installed smart meters: 13,80,22,912
