Andhra Pradesh aims to install 12 GW year on year renewable energy till 2030 up from current 7 GW of installations in FY 2023, to lead in India’s transition towards green energy and reduce its carbon emission. Andhra Pradesh having RE potential of 82.5 GW, second largest coastline in the country and supportive ecosystem due to government policies presents itself with great opportunity for renewable project installation and attract large investment in the state. The state having significant water resources from Godavari and Krishna rivers and six operational ports also has opportunity for green hydrogen production and export from the state for hard to abate industries. The incentives, waiver in transmission and wheeling charges and subsidies on power costs and electricity duty provided by the state government will boost domestic manufacturing, infrastructure development resulting in more investment and job creation. The RE targets set by will help develop local market with many small players in the state expected to come up with their manufacturing units and meet the demand of new installed capacities.

As more RE penetrates in the state, the government’s focus on BESS and pump storage projects will help solve the variable nature of RE minimizing the grid imbalances, resulting in reliable energy supply to meet state’s peak demand. Generation of RE will not only help state meet its own power demand but also export surplus power to other states. More industries are expected to set up their units in Andhra due to land availability, renewable energy supply and developed infrastructure to ensure smooth export. State government’s ambitious target for RE aligns with country’s goal of adding 500 GW of RE capacity till 2030, creating opportunity for more investment in RE sector in the state.
